The program ScribblingWorks is shareware.

Edwin Bühler grants a free 30 day license for use of this software (ScribblingWorks), starting from the date of receipt, after which time said software must be registered with Edwin Bühler with appropriate compensation and registration forms. Under no circumstances may the software be used beyond the free 30 day licensing period unless the previously stated conditions have been satisfied. You must purchase a separate copy of the software for each Macintosh it is used on.

Unless explicitly stated in writing, Edwin Bühler does not grant permission to distribute the software for profit in any form, including but not limited to, electronic information service distribution, bulletin board distribution, and magnetic or optical medium distribution. Non-profit distribution of the software is acceptable without prior written notice, providing that the software is not modified in any way, and the complete works of the software are included in the distribution package.

Introduction

 

With ScribblingWorks you can create notes and managing these notes with the functions of the application. You can sort notes by topics or marking with symbols.

First Start

 

Double click on the ScribblingWorks Icon. The application starts and create the preferences file and the database file ScribblingWorks.db. Then the User Interface dialog appears.

Select the language with the popup menu. This set the language of the user interface and the stopwords for automatic links, for the selected language.

The register window appears. When you trying the program, click on not yet .

Now, the first note is created. Edit the note title (examp.: My first Note) and some note text (examp.: First note text).

Open the topic popup menu and choose a topic. The topic menu shows the selected topic, and topic quick buttons were initialized.

Your first note is now created. When you quit the application, it makes a copy of the database file called ScribblingWorks.db (Backup).

Important: Make sometimes a copy of ScribblingWorks.db and save it on a different disk!

Main Window

 

Next and previous note

Click on this button for
choosing the next note.

Click on this button for
choosing the previous note.

First and last note

Click on this button for
choosing the last note.

choosing the first note.

The note scroller
This is the note scroller.
You can scroll between all notes in the list.

Used notes

In a list called used notes, the program stores the last 100 used notes. You can navigate with the used notes buttons at the right side. With the last used popup menu you can choose a note directly.

With this buttons you don't change the last used list or the position in the main note list.

Create a new note
To create a new note, click on the New Note button, or press the keys command-N. Then choose a topic with the topic popup menu.

Delete a note
When you will delete the current note, click on the Delete Note button. The note will be removed from the note list.

Open Search Window
This button open the Notelist window.
In the notelist window you can search for a note.

Open Link Window
This button open the linklist window.
In the linklist window you can see and select linked notes.

Marker Menu
You can choose a marker for every note. Open the Marker Menu and choose a marker for the current note.

Marker List
All markers are listed in this marker list. When you activate this list and select a marker, the note of the marker will displayed in the Note display. A double click open the note in the main window.
Navigate between the markers with arrow down and up keys.

The Notelist

 

List all notes
When you will see all notes in the note list, click on this button.

List all notes for a topic
Choose a topic with this popup menu, and all notes for that topic will be listed.

The Fuzzy Value
If the value of the slider Fuzzy Value is 95, it means, the found string must 95% equal to the search string.

Search string only in titles
Edit the search string in the text field. And then click on the Title Search button.

Edit the search string in the text field. And then click on the Text Search button.

Edit the search string in the text field. And then click on the All Search button.

The Link Button
Select a note and click the button to make a link between the note. (Make a Link)

Make a Link

 

You can add a link from the current note to another note. Or you can make a hyperlink, from a text part to a note.

Note to note

1. Step
First set the current note and then open the Notelist window with the search button.

2. Step
Now search for other notes with the search functions. If you found a related note, select it in the note list. And the click on the Link button.

Use Links

 

Note has links
When a note has links, the anchor on the top right side, is blue and not gray.

Open link list

You can view all links of a note with the link list window. Click on the Link button, and the link list window will be opened.

Links of yourself are in black. Automatic links are in gray.

Using links in list
You can view or open notes of the links. If you click one time on a link in the list, the note will displayed in Note Display. When you double click on a entry, the note opened in the main window.

Using Hyperlinks
You can view or open notes of a Hyperlink. If you click one time on a Hyperlink in a note, the linked note will displayed in Note Display. When you double click on a Hyperlink, the note opened in the main window.

Deleting a link
If you will delete one of the links in the link list, select it and click on the delete button.

Word List

 

ScribblingWorks build a list with the words of a note. And then it makes links to other notes containing the same word. It is using all words without stopwords. Stopword are words like the, this, or, one or any. With the Word List you can see and change which words are stopwords and which are not.

Open the Word List with Command-W. The stopwords are displayed in gray and all other words in blue. If you will change the state of a word, activate the list and double click on the word.

Topics

 

You can choose a topic for each note. Open the topic popup menu and select a topic. Or use one of the Quick-Topic buttons. The application set the buttons to the most used topics.

When you will make your own topics, open the Topic-Editor wirh Command-T.

First edit the name in the text field. Then select the parent topic group and then click on the new entry button.

When you has maked your changes, click on OK.

Scrapbutton

 

ScribblingWorks has a main Scrapbutton and each note has a Scrapbutton. With the Scrapbuttons you can scrap text, pictures and sound. You can use the note scrapbutton for attechments of the note. When you examply make a note about an article you will write in the future, edit the idea or concept as note text and scrap pictures ano/or text snippets for the article in the scraplist of the scrapbutton.

When you will scrap something, drag & drop it on a Scrapbutton.

Scraplist

Click on Scrapbutton to open the Scraplist. When you select an entry in the list at the left side, the content of the entry will display on the right side. If you click on the delete button, the selected entries will be delete.

You can drag & drop selected entries from the list to an other scraplist, scrapbutton, the desktop or an application.

In this version you can only drag & drop text clippings to a note.
